About Me

I’m Jessica from Murrieta, California. I’ve grown up in California and attended El Potrero Elementary, Murrieta Elementary, Thompson Middle School, and Murrieta Valley High School. Now I am happily a student at California State University San Marcos. I have always been a fan of school because I enjoy learning new things, reading, and challenging myself. My positive experiences at school throughout my youth have both planted a love for learning within me and fed my passion to teach. I hope to someday create an impactful learning atmosphere like the ones I have been lucky to have for students of generations to come.

When it comes to the technological fast track our world is enveloped with, I am a late- bloomer. I find technology and its countless and quickly- multiplying abilities to be fascinating, but I much prefer a real book to electronic pages and hand- written notes to text messages. However, I am eager to learn more in this class and expand my horizons to make myself more well- rounded and fitted to teach in a technologically- centered era.

The CSUSM School of Education Mission Statement embodies what I feel teaching should be about. Specifically, “life- long learning” and “ongoing service” is important to me. I feel that setting an example that will instill a desire to learn within students is a special and necessary characteristic of teaching. No matter one’s age, experiences, or educational background there is always something new to be learned. By making learning meaningful and enjoyable for students, the groundwork for life- long learners and people that seek knowledge in the world around them is laid. Also, I firmly believe in human kindness and approaching education from a place of compassion and service. I think it is important for young people to learn through actions and gain the understanding that serving others is rewarding on both ends. The School of Education at CSUSM places an emphasis on these aspects of teaching which are close to my heart, and I am grateful to be a part of its purposes.
